Things to Consider When Buying Designer Dog Beds for Large Dogs

When the words “designer dog beds” come up in a conversation, most people picture a toy breed Puppy, but large dogs need a bed too. They like to stretch out or curl up on something soft and comfortable in the same way smaller dogs do. For this reason, manufacturers have designed a line of extra Large Dog Beds to choose from as well as smaller beds.

Dogs are not considered just a pet anymore. They’re part of the family so why not make them feel as special as they are by giving them a bed that is as fashionable and comfortable as your own?

Before buying one of the designer dog beds for your large dog, consider the following to ensure you get the best match for your pet:

• What size bed does your dog need? To get the right size, you’ll need to measure your pet. Measure her from her front paws to the end of her tail when she is in a resting position. Add about 6 inches to that measurement, then search for a bed that matches or at least one that comes close. If you can’t find the right size, go up one. The extra large dog beds are needed for some of the larger breeds.  
• Is your dog full grown? If your four-legged friend is just a puppy, you’ll need to choose a bed that he can grow into. Choose something to accommodate his expected growth. Dogs grow fast so it won’t be long before he will fill out that bed.
• What does your budget look like? Designer dog beds come in a wide variety of prices so you need to look for the ones within your budget. When shopping, keep in mind that quality matters. If you pay a little more up front for a good designer bed, it will last much longer, saving you money in the end.
• How does your dog sleep? Does she curl up into a ball shape or stretch out as far as she can. Look at your dog’s normal resting position and use that to help you pick the shape of your bed.
• Is your pet a chewer? If so, you need to find a bed that will be hard for him to chew up and one that is made from non-toxic materials.
• Does your dog have any special needs? If you have an older dog or one with a condition like arthritis, consider a softer bed. If no problems are present, think about what the dog goes to most often, a hard floor or the softer carpet. This will help you determine which one of the designer dog beds will work the best, a firm or soft bed.
• What style and color do you want? This is something that only you will care about because your dog is not going to care if her bed matches your décor or not. However, you will and with so many different designs available, you can easily find a stylish bed that will go perfectly with the rest of the room. Some styles have covers that you can buy in different designs so you can switch them around and use in different rooms.
